Repairing water-damaged carpet in Wellington
Most water-damaged carpet doesn't need replacing. Once the leak is fixed and the floor is dry, the damaged section can usually be cut out and patched.

Where carpet water damage usually comes from
In Wellington homes it is most often a slow leak from a shower or bathroom, or water getting in through a leaky building. These leaks can go unnoticed for months. The carpet near the leak rots, stains or comes away from the floor, and sometimes the gripper and underlay go with it.
Get the cause fixed first. A plumber or builder needs to stop the leak, and the floor needs to be fully dry, before the carpet is repaired. Otherwise the damage comes back.
How we repair water-damaged carpet
- Cut out the rotted or stained section of carpet
- Replace damaged underlay and gripper in that area
- Patch in carpet you supply, laid with the pile running the same way
- Refix and re-stretch edges that have lifted
The replacement carpet has to come from you: a spare off-cut from the original install, or a piece from inside a wardrobe or cupboard. It's the only way that works. The aim is a clear improvement on the damage at a fraction of the cost of new carpet, not a carpet that looks brand new.
Insurance claims
Insurance work welcome. Include your claim details with your enquiry, and send us a photo of the damage to get started.

How our carpet repair process works
-
Tell us about the problem
Fill in the form, or email or text us. If you can, send us a phone photo with a coin or your hand in it for scale. We give you a considered estimate, and if you're happy with it, you book a time for us to come to you.
-
We find a piece of your carpet
The patch has to be your own carpet. If you kept an off-cut when it was laid, we use that. If not, we take a small piece from inside a wardrobe or cupboard and fill that gap with a plain off-cut of ours.
-
We patch the damage
We cut out the damaged area and no more, fit your piece with the pile running the same way, and secure the join underneath.
Weighing it up?
Email or text us a photo of the damage, or request an estimate, and we'll tell you whether it's worth repairing.
Water-damaged carpet questions
Can you dry out a wet carpet?
No. Drying and moisture extraction are work for carpet cleaners who specialise in floods. We come in once the carpet and floor are dry and the cause has been fixed, and repair the damage that is left.
Will the repaired area match the rest of the room?
It will be a real improvement, but rarely a perfect match. Water-damaged carpet is replaced with carpet you supply, usually a spare off-cut or a piece from inside a wardrobe, and carpet in the open fades and wears differently. We will tell you honestly what to expect before any work starts.
Does the whole room need new carpet?
Often not. When the damage is in one area, such as beside a shower or along a wall, cutting out that section and patching it is usually far cheaper than replacing the whole carpet.

Boyce is brilliant! I highly recommend him for his workmanship and he is polite, clean, tidy and very reasonably priced. We should have contacted him earlier and not put off the repairs we needed.

Boyce is an absolute wizard, I really thought there was no way the damage in the carpet wouldn't lead to having to replace it entirely, but he worked magic with a small off cut and you can't even tell there was an issue in the first place. He's also really friendly and professional, I highly recommend him.

Repairing a carpet costs a fraction of a new carpet.
Re-carpeting a room means uplift, underlay, disposal and a new carpet that may not match the next room. A repair deals with the damaged area and no more.
We'll be honest about the result. Carpet that has been out in the room for years has faded and worn, so a patch rarely matches it perfectly. A good repair is a real improvement, far less noticeable than the damage, rather than a perfect match.
If a repair isn't the right call for your carpet, we'll tell you.
