Repairing carpet edges at doorways, tiles and wood floors in Wellington

Where carpet meets another floor, the edge takes the most wear. A worn or lifting edge can usually be refixed rather than replaced.

Carpet edges we repair and finish

  • Carpet finished to new tiles after a bathroom, kitchen or entry renovation
  • Worn or lifting edges against existing tiles
  • Fraying edges where carpet meets a wooden floor
  • Doorway edges that have pulled off their threshold strip

How a carpet edge is refixed

The worn or uneven edge is trimmed straight, then fixed under a trim or threshold strip that suits the floor it meets. Where the carpet has shrunk back or been cut short, a small piece may need patching in. That carpet has to come from you: a spare off-cut, or a piece from inside a wardrobe.

What we don't do

We do not overlock mats or bind rugs. Ask us and we can point you to a business in Elsdon, Porirua that does.

How our carpet repair process works

  1. Tell us about the problem

Fill in the form, or email or text us. If you can, send us a phone photo with a coin or your hand in it for scale. We give you a considered estimate, and if you're happy with it, you book a time for us to come to you.

  2. We find a piece of your carpet

The patch has to be your own carpet. If you kept an off-cut when it was laid, we use that. If not, we take a small piece from inside a wardrobe or cupboard and fill that gap with a plain off-cut of ours.

  3. We patch the damage

We cut out the damaged area and no more, fit your piece with the pile running the same way, and secure the join underneath.

Weighing it up?

Email or text us a photo of the damage, or request an estimate, and we'll tell you whether it's worth repairing.

Carpet edge repair questions

Can you finish carpet to new tiles?

Yes. After a bathroom, kitchen or entry is tiled, the carpet edge needs cutting back and finishing against the tiles, usually with a trim strip. We do this for new tiles and for existing tiles where the edge has worn or lifted.

My carpet meets a wooden floor and the edge is fraying. What can be done?

The frayed edge is trimmed and refixed with a suitable edge strip, so it stops catching and unravelling.

Do you bind or overlock rugs and mats?

No. We do not overlock mats or bind rugs. We can suggest a business in Elsdon, Porirua that does.

Boyce is brilliant! I highly recommend him for his workmanship and he is polite, clean, tidy and very reasonably priced. We should have contacted him earlier and not put off the repairs we needed.

Boyce is an absolute wizard, I really thought there was no way the damage in the carpet wouldn't lead to having to replace it entirely, but he worked magic with a small off cut and you can't even tell there was an issue in the first place. He's also really friendly and professional, I highly recommend him.

Repairing a carpet costs a fraction of a new carpet.

Re-carpeting a room means uplift, underlay, disposal and a new carpet that may not match the next room. A repair deals with the damaged area and no more.

We'll be honest about the result. Carpet that has been out in the room for years has faded and worn, so a patch rarely matches it perfectly. A good repair is a real improvement, far less noticeable than the damage, rather than a perfect match.

If a repair isn't the right call for your carpet, we'll tell you.
