Repairing split seams and joins in carpet in Wellington
An open seam gets worse every time it is walked on. Re-joining it early stops it fraying.

Carpet seam problems we fix
- Joins that have split or opened up
- Frayed or unravelling seam edges
- Peaked or ridged joins from a poor install
- Gaps left after a wall has been removed in a renovation
How a carpet seam is re-joined
The two edges are trimmed straight, then joined again from underneath with new seaming tape. Where the carpet has stretched and is pulling the join apart, it is re-stretched first, so the new join isn't under strain. See re-stretching.
If the edges are too worn to re-join, a narrow strip may need patching in. That carpet has to come from you: a spare off-cut, or a piece from inside a wardrobe.
Fixing a faulty carpet install
Many seam problems start with how the carpet was laid. We can put right joins and edges from a poor install without replacing the carpet.

How our carpet repair process works
-
Tell us about the problem
Fill in the form, or email or text us. If you can, send us a phone photo with a coin or your hand in it for scale. We give you a considered estimate, and if you're happy with it, you book a time for us to come to you.
-
We find a piece of your carpet
The patch has to be your own carpet. If you kept an off-cut when it was laid, we use that. If not, we take a small piece from inside a wardrobe or cupboard and fill that gap with a plain off-cut of ours.
-
We patch the damage
We cut out the damaged area and no more, fit your piece with the pile running the same way, and secure the join underneath.
Weighing it up?
Email or text us a photo of the damage, or request an estimate, and we'll tell you whether it's worth repairing.
Carpet seam repair questions
Why has the join in my carpet opened up?
Seams split when the join was weak to begin with, when heavy furniture is dragged across them, or when the carpet has stretched and is pulling the join apart. Fixing the cause matters as much as fixing the join.
Will the join disappear?
No join is completely invisible, and we will not promise that. A re-joined seam lies flat and stops coming apart, and in most carpet it is hard to spot from standing height.
Can you fix a seam where a wall has been removed?
Yes. When a renovation removes a wall, the strip of floor where it stood needs filling. If you have carpet to fill it with, we can join it into the carpet on both sides.

Boyce is an absolute wizard, I really thought there was no way the damage in the carpet wouldn't lead to having to replace it entirely, but he worked magic with a small off cut and you can't even tell there was an issue in the first place. He's also really friendly and professional, I highly recommend him.

Repairing a carpet costs a fraction of a new carpet.
Re-carpeting a room means uplift, underlay, disposal and a new carpet that may not match the next room. A repair deals with the damaged area and no more.
We'll be honest about the result. Carpet that has been out in the room for years has faded and worn, so a patch rarely matches it perfectly. A good repair is a real improvement, far less noticeable than the damage, rather than a perfect match.
If a repair isn't the right call for your carpet, we'll tell you.
