Problems Addressed with Carpet Repairs in Porirua by Carpetech:

Many homeowners aren't aware of the many kinds of carpet repairs that are possible with the appropriate tools and the right skills. Some people opt to rip up old carpet and put down a cheaper replacement once it begins to look worn and dirty—but there is a more cost-effective way.

Frequently asked questions

Can you patch or repair very small areas of damage, like hair dye spots, nail polish, glue, or small burns and scorches around a fireplace?

Yes, very small areas are often very successful simply because they are so small and not too obvious. Again, it’s a matter of using available spare carpet or carpet from a wardrobe/cupboard, and patching a tiny plugs of carpet to remove the burns, or any very small damage.

Can you clean away mould stains, for instance pot-plant marks?

Yes, very small areas are often very successful simply because they are so small and not too obvious. Again, it’s a matter of using available spare carpet or carpet from a wardrobe/cupboard, and patching a tiny plugs of carpet to remove the burns, or any very small damage.

How do you repair damage caused by a cat or other pets?

Usually, the damaged area (and no more) needs to be cut out and replaced with some fresh carpet. If you don't have any spare carpet, it's very common for us to take a small section from the darkest corner of a wardrobe or cupboard, a little gap which we in turn fill with a small off-cut of our own, plain but non-matching.

How do you stretch or restretch a carpet?

A simple but strong tool called a power-stretcher is placed on the carpet, with its 'foot' resting against one wall while the 'head' (which contains sharp teeth) is placed at the opposite side of the room. A ratchet lever attached to the head is used to gently pull the carpet tight again. Excess carpet, surprisingly often no more than 10–20mm, is trimmed off and the carpet is refinished to the wall.
